Mountain Mettle

Mountain don’t give a fuck
To them we’re smaller than we appear
Like nests of rustling ants and ticks
Scurrying and milling about everywhere
Making jobs, bills, lies and politics

Mountain don’t give a fuck
We shit trash in the oceans
And gum up all the clean air
With chainsaws, factories, trucks
And pollute without a care

Mountain don’t give a fuck
They prefer growing their beards
Instead of shaved and trimmed
And built into ski slopes, trams,
Mined, paved, logged and drilled

Mountain don’t give a fuck
Even if we were kind and loving
Speaking in whispers, songs and hugs
Comforted and helped one another
Respected peaks and quit squishing bugs

Mountain don’t give a fuck
About your zoom, necks bent down
Facetime, texts, prime memberships,
Poodle sweaters, tinder dates, hulu
Or your gods, virus, and apocalypse

Mountain don’t give a fuck

And neither do I
